From Our Emptiness to His Glory
As you know, I’m under a crazy writing schedule these days and it probably won’t let up until December. I really appreciate your patience, understanding, and prayers. I’ll do my best to have at least a little journal entry each week.
This week I thought I’d just post a little thing I wrote the other day after reflecting on an especially sweet time just worshiping the Lord.
God uses our emptiness to draw us…
“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price." (Isaiah 55:1 ESV)
and fill us…
"For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things." (Psalm 107:9 ESV)
in His Presence!
“Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat." (Revelation 7:15-16 ESV)
There we are filled with joy…
"You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." (Psalm 16:11 ESV)
Which bookends strength.
“for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10 ESV)
"We pray that you’ll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul—not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy," (Colossians 1:11 The Message)
This glory-strength gives us power…
"May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy," (Colossians 1:11 ESV)
to fulfill the work for which we’re called…
"To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power," (2 Thessalonians 1:11 ESV)
for His glory!
"so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Thessalonians 1:12 ESV)
I hope you are able to find a few moments this week to sit in the presence of the Lord and be filled with His strength and joy.
According to these pictures taken at the DFW airport when we had a 3-hour flight delay last week on the way to Kentucky, it looks like my kiddoes have plenty of joy.
