Personal Prayer Journal
March 4, 2006 – Personal Prayer Journal
Since these Monday morning “Coffee Talk” journal entries are extensions of my personal journey, I thought I’d share a few entries from my personal prayer journal this week.
(This week’s pictures are from Charlotte Rae’s visit to Dallas to help her sister recover from back surgery. It was so good to spend the afternoon with her. Doesn’t she look awesome with her beautiful white hair?!)

God, I want to be whatever size and weight you want me to be. I relinquish my opinion on what that should be. I am completely yours. Whether you are pleased with 120 pounds or 200 pounds, I want to trust You. Whatever the weight, I need your help to get there and stay there. Like EVERYTHING else in my life, I am unable to do anything in my own strength. I admit my inability. Please have Your way in me as I submit to You. Please fill me with Your power as I admit my weakness. Give me faith to believe You have heard and are faithful to answer. Thank You.

I felt led to fight for the peace of our family. There has been so
much strife lately between the kids. I asked God if I should fast and, if so, how. I was surprised when He told me to offer the sacrifice of praise. Bummer! I wanted to fast from food and lose some weight as a side bonus. The last few days I have been going into my walk-in closet with my iPod and portable speakers and spending about 15-20 minutes singing and speaking praise. It actually makes sense that God would call me to worship in this battle for the peace of our home. I’m learning that the root of the strife in our home is pride. So worship directly combats that pride. Also, elevating and exalting Jesus puts our puniness in perspective producing humility. Also, worship is spiritual and it permeates the atmosphere of our home, driving out the prince of this world with the presence of the Prince of Peace!

Genesis 19:16 – “And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughter, the Lord, being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.” Two things jump out at me in this verse. First, it is so encouraging that even when we drag our feet in obedience, God in His mercy, will grab our hands and lead us to safety if we are His. Secondly, once again, God saves the whole household. I love that about God’s ways and I’m so grateful.
Genesis 19:29 – “And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt.” God honors and answers our prayer for our relatives. God will save and rescue our loved ones even if they are in the middle of sin of their own volition. God will send rescuing angels to grab them and pull them out of their sin and provide a place of safety for them. All because of our prayers.

I was looking around the room of my Bible Study group, tempted to judge by appearances and the Lord impressed me that the very idiosyncrasies are what delights Him about each person. Furthermore, the very things about each person that would invite judgment were the places God had the most tender spot for that person because of their insecurities in that area. Father, have mercy on me, that I would not judge any precious child You adore.
