More Birthday Letters
As I promised last week, I’m posting some more of the wonderful letters received for his 16th birthday album. There is so much wisdom in each of the letters, I wish I could post them all. Instead, I’ve chosen to post two of Tucker’s grandfather’s, Curt and Roy, Tucker’s former baseball coach and family friend, Scott Mullen, and my manager and family friend, Ron Smith.
Dear Tucker:
You have reached a milestone in your life and I want to open my heart to you as your Paternal Grandfather. You are my only Grandson and I cannot express the pride and joy you have brought to our family. Of course I love the girls but I prayed for at least one Grandson and God honored me for which I praise Him.
You are a fine, intelligent, courteous, handsome and loving young man and I am filled with pride when I see what God is doing in your life. If you will hear His voice and seek His perfect will for your life, you will be blessed. We love your music and God will use it to win others.
Proverbs 4:20-27 is my advice to you. Our love and constant prayers are with you, with all my love on your 16th birthday.

Dear Tucker:
Congratulations on turning 16! I have very much admired watching you grow up from a young child to a young adult. You are definitely a humorous and fun loving young man, traits that the Lord has given you, and ones that I hope you never lose!
The next ten years of your life will be pivotal and exciting for you. Never forget that the good Lord does indeed have a plan for your life. It is one that includes hope, prosperity and a future. Remember, that you can’t connect the dots of your future looking forward, you can only connect them looking backwards. Therefore you must have faith that the dots will somehow connect in the future. You have to trust in something and your parents have done a great job in growing your faith.
As you have already learned Tucker, sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t give up! Find what you love, whether it is music, writing, etc., discovering your passion is one of life’s most important jorneys. Some never find it! Your future studies and work is going to fill a large part of your life. The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. The only way to do great work, is to love what you do. It is very important that during this next stage of your life that you truly explore and test what true passions God has placed inside of you. If you haven’t found it, you keep looking. Don’t settle! As with all matters of the heart, you will know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. Keep looking and don’t settle!
As you are now 16, it is hard to imagine that your life on earth is limited. However, your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Somehow Tucker, I don’t believe that will ever be a problem for you.
Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own passions and inner voice. Most importantly, have the courage and conviction to follow your heart and intuitions. By always seeking God’s direction for your life, you will remain on the right path.
Enjoy this time and period of your life Tucker. Stay hungry and find your passions. To me, that is why God put them there in the first place! It is a true key to life…
Happy Birthday Tucker! We are glad that you are back in Texas. I look forward to our Oxnard summer trips (even if you didn’t pikc San Diego) and watching you grow even further into the man God has destined you to be. Have fun!

Tucker:
What a special time of life you are entering. You have been sheltered by Godly parents, both of whom have protected and guided you in decision that you have made.
I know that the shelter your parents have provided may at times have seemed like it was overwhelming you. Over the next few months and years you will see your parents pull back and let you make your own decisions. Many times you will long for one of them to step in and carry your load. At those moments when life seems tough, take a minute and listen for God’s voice as He reminds you of the insight that He and your parents have instilled in you.
My prayer for you is that you will only change in age. Your personality will serve you well as you grow closer to God and others.

I expect you to become a ‘Man”. A Godly Man. You are growing physically and emotionally. More important, you must grow spiritually.
Your Spiritman is the only part of you that can be trusted to guide you through all the temptations, frustrations, trials and tests that are sure to come.
Don’t worry, you have a “helper” and a “Sword”. The Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.
You have had the “Word” carefully placed inside you for 16 years.
Now it is time for you to grab it (like King Arthur, Sword in the Stone), pull it out, use it, and keep it sharp.
Train yourself to walk in the Spirit. The greater the spirit—the greater the Man.
