Motherhood Club Event

I promised a couple of weeks ago to tell you about the Motherhood Club Event called “It’s a Mom Thing!” This wonderful day for mothers was hosted by Howard Publishing in West Monroe, Louisiana. Howard Publishing is my publisher for “The Busy Mom Series” I’m writing. “The Busy Mom’s Guide to Prayer” was released a few month’s ago. “The Busy Mom’s Guide to Wisdom” will be released in January. I’m also going to be writing “The Busy Mom’s Guide to Worship” and “Bible Study.” Next month I begin writing “The Busy Grandma’s Guide to Prayer.”
As you can tell, I love this company. What draws me to them the most is their ability to get into the marketplace with their books. I’m sure you’ve all seen the “Hugs!” series of gift books in your local Hallmark, drugstore and gift shop. That’s what gets me so excited about working with Howard Publishing. I’m thankful for the opportunity to have my books in a place where a busy mom might shop, pick up the book, and have the chance for the Lord to touch her right where she lives.
Well, about a year ago, they approached me and asked if I would consider becoming the “face” for a new line of books under the umbrella of “The Motherhood Club.” Their goal is to resource and equip and encourage moms in this high calling of motherhood. The “It’s a Mom Thing” one-day conference is an off-shoot of this ministry. I’m proud to be a part of this club!
The day of the event began with an incredible group of singers, all moms, who did an awesome job leading worship. Chrys Howard and Philis Boultinghouse, the brains and the heart behind The Motherhood Clunb, set the tone for the day and gave away tons of beautiful door prizes.
The first speaker of the morning was Gigi Schweikert. She was awesome! I really like her book, “I’m a Good Mother” and I enjoyed her speaking even more. She was very funny and had us all nodding our heads with her in agreement as she rehearsed the thrills and chills of motherhood. (Only at a mom’s event can you use the words “breast pump” and “placenta” and get away with it.)
The next speaker was Karol Ladd. I’m sure most of you have heard of her bestselling book, “The Power of a Positive Mom.” I had the privilege of meeting Karol for coffee at Starbucks in Dallas a few weeks ago, to get to know her before the event. We also spent the day together flying to Houston for a Sam’s Club book signing. What a precious lady! She defines sweet and creative and she, too, did an awesome job speaking.
Next we enjoyed a very girlie lunch and a fashion show from Target. Clancy came with me to the event and this was her favorite part of the day. I thought she was going to hyperventilate sitting on my lap looking at all these cute clothes.
The highlight of my day was Chonda Pierce. Not only did I love listening to her. She is hysterical but she always manages to make a point – as she directs the attention to Jesus. I didn’t know she had such a beautiful voice. Wow! My favorite part was just sitting at the table with her. She kept us all entertained. When I got home I signed up for her “Road Kill” newsletter and I think you would enjoy doing the same thing at www.chonda.org.
Talk about pressure – I had to follow Chonda! Thankfully, we both serve the same God and it was up to Him to work through me. As long as I reminded myself of that, I wasn’t so intimidated and it ultimately went fine.
Steve, Tucker, Clancy and I loaded up the minivan and drove out of Louisiana just as it started raining. (Haven had to stay home because of a babysitting commitment.) We had no idea the first few sprinkles were the beginnings of the worst storm of our lifetime. Thankfully, West Monroe and the Howard Publishing offices fared well in the hurricane. They are now knee-deep in helping with the relief effort.
So, that’s it. Right now we are all in the RV driving to Oklahoma City where I’m speaking at an event with Gloria Gaither. Tomorrow we are meeting some friends, (my favorite artist, Mike Wimmer.) It really feels like old times in this RV and it brings back such good memories.
