Worship Journal Pt. 2
September 8, 2005
It is late Thursday evening and I have an early flight in the morning to speak in Bristol, Tennessee on Friday evening and Saturday morning. I’m supposed to have my journal entry to Mike, the Webmaster, by Friday each week. I will have to until next week to write about “The Motherhood Club” event. I’m too tired to write something new tonight. Also, the pictures have nothing to do with anything but they are just some recent ones I took over Labor Day at the lake.
Instead, I’m going to look through my Worship/Prayer journal and share a few of my reflections from the past few weeks. The underlined text is the pre-written prompts from Stormie Omartian’s Worship journal. The regular text is my response.
What does 2 Timothy 1:9 have to say about God’s calling on your life? Is it because of something you have done?
What a relief! I only want to be what You have called me to be, Lord. I don’t want to be more and I don’t have to worry about being less. You have called me with a holy calling according to the plans you have for me. Remind me and help me to stay close to you and then rest in the truth that you will accomplish Your purpose in and through me. I lay all of my hopes, dreams, plans, agendas and ideas on the altar and ask that You empower and give life only to that which will have eternal significance. Remind me to listen and help me to hear Your voice guiding me into and through Your will and purpose.
Take a few moments to write out a prayer of praise for God’s presence in your life. Enjoy telling Him all the ways you worship Him.
What a privilege it is to be chosen by You and for You. I know I did nothing to deserve Your favor, but I am eternally grateful! Thank You for touching me as a little girl, and even in my mother’s womb. Thank You for keeping me in Hollywood as a teenager and for your mercy during my twenties and for your faithful pruning in my thirties! Thank You for welling up praise inside me and surrounding me with Your presences. Thank You for America and for church and awesome music and books and teachings and Bible studies that help me know You and fall more in love with You!
In Psalm 27:4, David says, “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek…” What is the one thing you desire of the Lord? Write it out as a prayer to Him.
Lord, You know my heart and that there are many things I desire, but mostly I desire to know, worship and obey You. But today I want to pray about a desire that is most up front in my life these days. Lord, I ask you to humble our family. Where there is pride, strife, control, selfishness, self-righteousness, and all the other manifestations for pride would you do a work in each of our hearts to create hearts, lives, and an atmosphere of humility and worship of You. Father, I do ask for your mercy in this process and for your grace and strength but nothing is more important to me than my family humbly loving, trusting, serving, worshiping and obeying You.
Have you been able to lay your heart bare before the Lord? Have you been able to reveal all aspects of how you feel to Him? If not, tell Him now. If you have, tell Him again.
Lord, I love calling you Lord. I love submitting to You; it is so much safer than me running the show. There is no way I could reveal all aspects of how I feel to YO uon this page but I will begin. I feel in love with You. You are perfect, beyond perfect and constant and trustworthy. I feel desperate for my children to know, love and obey You. I feel like I wish there was more down time in my life. I wish You would intervene more in my mom’s life. I feel like I really don’t have enough of Your love in my heart for people. I feel grateful for my marriage. I feel fat. I enjoy my children. I cry out to you – make me in Your image!
What is your greatest dream, not matter how impossible it seems?
Oh my goodness, what is my greatest dream? Certainly, I can think of a few but I guess my greatest dream is for my children to know You, love You, obey You, trust You and serve You. May their lives be so consumed with relationship with You that they pour out their lives for eternal purposes. I also pray that they will have healthy, humble, godly marriages. That they will mutually serve each other and raise their children in the ways of the Lord for a holy heritage. I know these things are possible with You. Thank You, Lord.
Consider the words of Jeremiah 5:22. What should the awesomeness of God’s power cause us to do?
As mighty and unfathomable as the sea is, it is completely controlled by God. As deep and tumultuous as it is, it has boundaries set by God. As dangerous as the waves and rip-tides can be, they must come to an end at the sand. The ocean steadily presses in but it has its limits, decreed by God. There is nothing out of control in our lives. No matter how deep we feel the matter reaches, no matter how far-reaching, upsetting, scary, potentially death-dealing, unrelenting, and on and on, God has declared an end, a boundary, a limit. He will not let anything overwhelm and consume us. He is in control. Not the mighty seas and not our huge circumstances.
Good night, my friends.
