Focus: Lisa, what made you decide
to write a book about homeschooling?
Lisa: I run into parents all the
time who say, "I'm thinking about homeschooling." Within
the next breath they usually add, "But…," and
give some reason why they think they could never do it, or why
it would never work because of their family situation, or they
simply don't know where to begin. I soon discovered that these
parents usually had a stereotypical view of what homeschooling
looks like and they just couldn't see themselves in that picture.
Focus: What do you tell them?
Lisa: I don't tell them anything
- I show them! I invite the reader to join me as we "visit" fifteen
families who each homeschool for different reasons, in unique
situations, using a variety of methods. By observing the flexibility
of schedules, quality of education, strengthening of relationships,
and realistic sacrifice, they can make a more well-informed choice
for their own family.
Focus: Is this book for families
who have already made the choice to homeschool, as well?
Lisa: Absolutely! Homeschoolers
are always learning and we usually learn the most by hanging
out with other homeschoolers. This book gives us the chance to
observe fifteen different families and discover how they are
handling the high school years, juggling laundry and toddlers,
building character in their little ones, or trying out a new
teaching method.
And, best of all, when you are finished reading
it you can pass it along to your neighbor or mother-in-law as
a skeptic-friendly "homeschool evangelism" tool.
